4. Legal basis for processing

Under the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), Canada’s federal private-sector privacy law, we process your personal information based on:

  • Consent — express (for example, when you submit a contact form) or implied (when the use is obvious in the context of a request you initiated)

If you are located in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, we rely on the equivalent legal bases under the GDPR.

5. Cookies and analytics

oonect.com uses Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors use the site. Google Analytics stores cookies on your device. We have configured Google Analytics with IP anonymization and have not enabled advertising features that would tie your activity to a Google ad profile.

When you first visit our site, you will see a cookie consent banner managed through Complianz. The banner allows you to accept, reject, or customize the cookies we use. You can change your cookie preferences at any time using the cookie settings link in our footer.

You can also disable cookies in your browser settings. If you do, some parts of the site may not function as expected.

6. Who we share your information with

We share personal information only with:

  • Service providers that help us operate our business — for example, our website host, our analytics provider, and our email infrastructure provider. These providers are bound by contract or terms of service to handle your information confidentially and only for the purposes we direct.
  • Professional advisors such as lawyers and accountants when needed to operate our business or assert our legal rights.
  • A successor entity if Oonect is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets — in which case the recipient will be required to honour this Privacy Policy.
  • Authorities when we are legally required to disclose information in response to a valid request, court order, or to protect our rights, property, or safety.

We do not share your personal information with marketing partners or data brokers.

7. International data transfers

Oonect is based in Canada. Some of our service providers, including our hosting and analytics partners, operate servers in the United States and other countries. By using our website and services, you understand that your personal information may be processed in jurisdictions outside Canada whose data protection laws may differ from yours. Where required, we use contractual safeguards to protect your information during international transfers.

8. How long we keep your information

We retain personal information only for as long as necessary for the purpose it was collected, including to:

  • Complete an engagement and any post-engagement obligations
  • Comply with our legal, accounting, and reporting obligations
  • Resolve disputes and enforce agreements

Inquiry data from prospective clients who do not become clients is retained for up to 24 months and then deleted unless you ask us to keep it longer. Client engagement records are retained for the duration of our business relationship plus the period required by Canadian tax and contract law (typically seven years).

9. Your rights

Depending on where you are located, you may have the following rights regarding your personal information:

  • Access — request a copy of the information we hold about you
  • Correction — ask us to correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete
  • Deletion — ask us to delete information we hold about you, subject to our legal retention obligations
  • Withdrawal of consent — withdraw consent for any processing based on consent
  • Objection — object to certain types of processing
  • Portability — request a copy of your information in a portable format, where applicable
  • Complaint — file a complaint with a privacy regulator. In Canada, that is the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada. In the EEA or UK, that is your local data protection authority.

To exercise any of these rights, email admin@oonect.com. We will respond within 30 days. We may need to verify your identity before acting on your request.

10. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect your personal information. These include encrypted connections (HTTPS) for our website, access controls on our systems, and confidentiality obligations for everyone we work with. No system is perfectly secure, however, and we cannot guarantee the security of information transmitted over the internet.

If we become aware of a security incident affecting your personal information, we will notify you and the appropriate regulators in accordance with applicable law.

11. Children’s privacy

Our services are directed to public-sector and commercial professionals, not to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact admin@oonect.com and we will delete it.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or applicable law. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. If the changes are material, we will provide additional notice — for example, by email or a banner on our website. Your continued use of our website or services after the changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
